ONTARIO GOVERNMENT INVESTS IN CHINESE SENIORS ASSOCIATION
WITH RECREATION DEVELOPMENT FUND (RDF)

RICHMOND HILL- The Ontario government is supporting the Richmond Hill Chinese Seniors Association with a $13,900 grant from the Recreation Development Fund (RDF) today announced Transportation Minister and MPP for Oak Ridges Frank Klees.

This funding will afford the Richmond Hill Chinese Seniors Association increased opportunities to participate in new programs promoting physical activity and recreation in Richmond Hill and Markham.

"The Ontario government is committed to ensuring all Ontarians have access to sport and recreation programs that enhance their quality of life," said Klees. "We also want to make sure that Ontarians have opportunities to benefit from increased physical activity."

The Recreation Development Fund (RDF) promotes involvement in recreation, sport and physical activity by all Ontarians including children, youth, adults and seniors. The Fund also supports safety initiatives for sport and recreation at the community level and with provincial recreation organizations.

"The RDF invests in new recreational opportunities such as recreational outreach programs for children and youth, walking clubs for seniors and therapeutic horseback riding lessons for children with special needs," said Brian Coburn, Minister of Tourism and Recreation. "More than $2.1 million have been allocated to 144 organizations for sport and recreational activities and programs from the ministry's Recreation Development Fund."

Eligible applicants for the RDF program include not-for-profit organizations; provincial and local sport organizations, municipalities, and aboriginal communities. These Recreation Development Fund grants enable communities to develop sport and recreational programs including the recruitment and training of staff and volunteers.
